• Lutein and zeaxanthin both are xanthophyll carotenoids found in green vegetables. Lutein and zeaxanthin have antioxidant property. Along with other natural antioxidants, including vitamin c, beta carotene these pigments prevent the damaging of cells by free radicals, which are unstable molecules that can destroy cells and play a role in many diseases. Lutein and zeaxanthin, may decrease the risk for age related macular degeneration and retinopathy. It functions as a light filter, protecting the eye tissues from sunlight damage.
